Cell Controls for Modifying Data
In addition to standard keyboard data entry, Numbers includes support for cell controls, which assign interface items including checkboxes, sliders, steppers and pop-up menus. You can assign checkboxes by selecting cells and clicking the checkbox button in the contextual toolbar. You can select other cell controls using the pop-up menu next to the checkbox button in the toolbar or the Inspector’s Cell Inspector tab. When using cell controls, the Cell Inspector allows you to set variables such as maximum and minimum values, increments, and pop-up menu choices.
Also in the Cell Inspector tab is the option for conditional formatting, which applies styles to cells if their contents meet certain conditions. You apply them much like you apply filters. This is great tool to ensure that cells stand out if they contain certain information (such as an overdue payment).
