Ruler: If the ruler isn’t showing, press Command R. Without the ruler showing, you can’t set tabs, indents, or margins.
Formatting: If text won’t let you apply formatting, it’s probably using “Plain Text.” Go to the Format menu and choose “Make Rich Text.”
Wrap to Page: If the text is stretching the entire width of the window no matter how wide you open it, you might want to switch to the option where the text wraps according to the page it will be printed on. To do this, go to the Format menu and choose “Wrap to Page.”
When the TextEdit page is using “Wrap to Window,” your printer will reduce the size of the text on the printed page to match the line lengths on your screen. So if your text prints really tiny, follow the step above to “Wrap to Page.”
