Other Applications That Support Time Machine
In addition to the Finder, Address Book and iPhoto both work directly with Time Machine. With either of these applications open and selected, you can click the Time Machine icon and search backups for specific items to restore.
It's easy to see why these specific applications are given special attention by Time Machine when you consider that they display content stored in a database or package that is not easily browsed from the Finder. It's also worth mentioning that when you restore pictures in iPhoto, they are actually imported almost like new photos and not placed in the event where they were originally sorted (though you can merge this new event into the previous event).
