White Point and Gamma
Apart from asking you to adjust the hardware settings, the calibration software will ask you to choose white point and gamma settings before you proceed to build a profile. If you are using a CRT display, I recommend you always choose a white point of 6500 K. If you are using an LCD display, it is not possible to manually adjust the white point the way you can on a CRT. Although you can set a specific white
point for an LCD display, doing so will only compromise the display's performance, so it is usually best to select the native white point for the LCD. Whether you are using a Mac or PC computer, the gamma should ideally be set to 2.2. On the Macintosh, the 1.8 gamma option is only there for quaint historical reasons.
