Bonjour for Joining Domains
One final addition to Open Directory that I mentioned in the first article is worth mentioning again: the ability for Leopard clients to locate Open Directory servers using Bonjour when the servers are configured using either standard or workgroup mode.
This adds to the methods for binding Macs to Open Directory, which were previously limited to pushing Open Directory information out via DHCP or manual configuration of each client.
By default, Leopard will search for Open Directory servers using Bonjour and present users the option of selecting one.
Combined with the new wide area Bonjour feature, this function can greatly simplify the installation of new computers into an Open Directory environment.
