Time to set the Color Management options. Start by choosing the printing profile (see Figure 4). The default setting is Managed by Printer, which means that your printer is going to color-manage the job. Having your printer manage the color used to be a total joke, but with the advances in printing technology, it’s not all that bad. However, you’ll get better results by having Lightroom assign a printer/paper profile. To do this, first go to the website of the company that manufactures the brand of paper you’re going to use for printing. On that site, find the ICC color profiles they provide for free downloading that exactly match the following:
- The paper on which you’re going to print
- The printer you’re going to use
Download and install the profiles. In this example, I’m printing to an Epson Stylus Photo R2400 printer using Epson’s Premium Luster paper, so I go to Epson’s website, find the R2400 Drivers & Downloads page, download Epson’s ICC color profiles for Premium Luster paper, and install them.
