Working with the Canvas Panel
The Canvas panel is the simplest of the layout panels. In contrast to the Grid, the Canvas supports absolute positioning only. Elements do not automatically resize or align.
To position objects in a Canvas panel:
- From the Toolbox, choose the Canvas tool
and draw a Canvas on the Artboard. - From the Toolbox, choose the Selection tool.
- Double-click the Canvas object on the Artboard. A yellow outline appears around the edges of the Canvas (Figure 4.21).

- Draw an object in the Canvas (Figure 4.22).

To position the object:
Use the Selection tool to move the object. (See Chapter 2 for more information on how to move an object using the Selection tool.)
Or:
In the Layout section of the Properties panel, modify the values for Left and Top (Figure 4.23). As the values change, the object on the Artboard moves to reflect the change.
