Opening Files
To open an InDesign file, choose Open from the File menu, double-click on the file on the desktop, or drag the file’s icon onto the application icon. You can also open QuarkXPress and PageMaker documents with InDesign (see Appendix A and B). When opening InDesign files you can select from three options in the Open dialog box (see Figure 14-2).
-
Open Normal. This is the default option and the one you’ll use when you just want to edit an existing file. If you open a file saved as a template (see below), this option opens a new, Untitled document based on the template.
-
Open Original. Use this option to open and edit a template file itself, instead of opening an Untitled file based on the template.
-
Open Copy. With this option you can use any document as a starting point for a new document. To achieve the same result in QuarkXPress, you’d need to manually duplicate a document and then open it.
