Want to learn more?
Page load optimization is a hot topic and there are plenty of great books and blogs to read if you want to learn more.
The best advice I can give you, as you learn about additional optimization techniques, is that no technique can be applied in a blanket or blind fashion – you must understand how your site is crafted, how browsers will try to render it, and how visitors use your site to make the best decisions about which techniques to apply. You may have to do some fine tuning to determine the combination of techniques that work for your site. And, once you’ve implemented any changes, be sure to thoroughly test your site to ensure nothing breaks.
Not sure that all of this work will result in a payoff? These five basic techniques, applied to the marketing-focused home page of a Web application, resulted in savings all around: smaller code and objects, fewer objects, and a faster load time!
