How to Create an Agenda Slide in PowerPoint
by Rebecca Bridges Altman, author of PowerPoint 2000/98 for Windows & Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide
An agenda slide (Figure 1) is a slide consisting of a simple list of hyperlinked topics. Each of these topics is linked to a group of slides in your presentation; each group of slides is called a custom show. When you click an item on the agenda slide during a slide show, PowerPoint displays the custom show, and then automatically returns to the agenda slide.
Figure 1 An agenda slide offers hyperlinks to
custom shows.
Agenda slides are useful for dividing your presentation into logical areas and keeping your audience tuned in to where you are in the presentation.
Note
If you would like to see an example of how an agenda slide works, you can download a sample presentation file that contains both an agenda slide and the related custom shows.
The first step is to create the custom shows.
TO CREATE A CUSTOM SHOW:
-
Choose Slide Show > Custom Shows.
-
The Custom Shows dialog box appears.
-
Click New.
-
The Define Custom Show dialog box appears.
-
In the Slide show name field, type a descriptive name for the custom show.
-
In the Slides in presentation list, hold down Ctrl (Windows) or Shift (Mac OS) and click each slide title that you want to make part of the custom show (Figure 2).
Figure 2 Select the slides you want to include
in the custom show. -
Click Add.
-
The selected slide titles now appear in the Slides in custom show list (Figure 3).
Figure 3 Use the Add button to add the selected
slides to the current custom show. -
Click OK.
-
The Custom Shows dialog box lists the custom shows you have created (Figure 4).
Figure 4 This presentation has four custom shows. -
Repeat steps 2 through 6 to define additional custom shows.
-
When you're finished, click Close.
You are now ready to create an agenda slide that links to each of these custom shows.
