Using Layers to Select Content
Layers can also be used for everyday selection (see Figure 5). Besides selecting content carefully on the artboard, you can select content using several methods in the Layers panel. Here are a few:
- Alt-click (Windows) or Option-click (Mac) a layer name or sublayer name in the Layers panel to select all the content on that layer or sublayer. This is one of my favorite ways to select all content on a layer.
- Shift-Alt-click (Windows) or Shift-Option-click (Mac) a series of layers or sublayers in the Layers panel to select content on more than one layer or sublayer.
How about the other way around? If you have selected something on the artboard, you can choose Locate Object in the Layers panel menu, and the sublayer will be revealed in the Layers panel for you.
