Sharing Layers

If you plan to take content from one Illustrator document to another, you may want to preserve the layer structure when the content is moved. This can save time later. Here's how you can do that:

  1. Before you copy the content that you want to paste into another Illustrator document, choose Paste Remembers Layers from the Layers panel menu.
  2. Select and copy the desired content.
  3. Paste the content into another Illustrator document. Notice that the layers now appear in the Layers panel.

This trick also works if you drag-and-drop content from one Illustrator document into another. Try it!
