Building a Custom jQuery Mobile Page from Scratch
In the first article in this series, "Building Mobile Pages with Dreamweaver CS5.5," I showed you how to generate and customize ready-to-upload mobile-friendly web pages from Dreamweaver CS5.5's new mobile starter pages.
Let's pause here for a moment to ponder how ironic, weird, or even bizarre that technique seems. I've written something like 50 books on web and digital graphic design, taught web design classes forever, and I'm not sure I've ever promoted using a "template" to design a web page. Templates always have seemed (and overwhelmingly have been) a tool for non-designersthose without the technical or creative capacity to design a web page, and whose family-snapshots home page, band promo site, or blog about trekking to the North Pole fits just fine in one of the prefabricated page designs available from Facebook, WordPress, or MySpace.
So, why an article on using Dreamweaver CS5.5's sample page for mobile pages (see Figure 1)? In short, this sample page is a response to a rapidly and radically changing set of web design challenges and solutions. It's also a valuable tool for creating mobile-friendly pages very quickly.
