Pixel Perfection: A Thing of the Past
This is at odds with the older web design philosophy of pixel perfection, an unofficial web design philosophy that assumes that not only do your web designs need to look identical on every browser and every version, but that those designs should exactly match an ideal visual comp (composition). Visual comps are generally created in image editing applications like Photoshop, Illustrator, or Fireworks. But Photoshop is not the reality of the web, and there are things you can do in Photoshop that can’t be done on the web, and there are now things that CSS3 can do in web design that are difficult to achieve in Photoshop, and thus avoided by designers. This can lead to a lot of large images and kludges to get even simple design effects (like curved corners) to work.
Pixel perfection holds back true innovation in web by limiting us to what can be achieved in static bit mapped images, rather than engaging the vibrant interactive medium that is the web.
