The Future Lies in Progressive Enhancement
Progressive enhancement will allow us to embrace the strengths of design on the web, while also providing great advantages in web development. Applying progressive enhancement to any web design project will:
- Reduce reliance on images for visual design which makes development simpler and generally leads to smaller file sizes, less downloading, and faster websites.
- Add new visual design capabilities that are native to the web such as multiple drop-shadows and glows.
- Improve interaction design using the new styles and transitions to provide better user interface feedback.
- Increase content versatility by separating style from structure allowing the HTML content to be restyled depending on its context.
- Allow for dynamic style controls so that users can tailor the view to their specific needs.
