Working with SkyDrive

You can use SkyDrive in place of an external drive for storing backups of important files, or you can view and edit the Office documents you’ve uploaded to it using Office 2013 or the Office Web Apps. Regardless of how you intend to use SkyDrive, you’ll need to familiarize yourself with its folder- and file-management procedures.

To access your SkyDrive:

  1. In Internet Explorer, FireFox, or Safari, log into your Windows Live or Hotmail, account or go to skydrive.live.com.
  2. If SkyDrive isn’t the active component, choose it from the component menu in the top-left corner of the window A.
  3. A. Switch among Windows Live components by clicking this menu icon.

The root level of your SkyDrive account appears B. By default, there are three folders: Documents (private), Pictures (private), and Public (accessible by anyone). In addition, you can create other folders as needed.

    B. The root level of a SkyDrive account.

SkyDrive folders can be created and managed to organize your files however you like.

To create a folder:

    • D. The current folder’s name is shown above the file list. To its right is the path to the current folder.

    • To return to the root level, click Files in the Navigation Pane, the SkyDrive icon, or your name SkyDrive in the current path D.
