5 Putting the masks to work. To view the mask on a layer, select the layer
in the Layers section, and in the Masks section open the layer mask's eye icon.
To switch back to Color View, shut the layer mask's eye icon.
6 Positioning the layer and painting on its mask. First scale, rotate and position one layer on top of another and make sure that the top layer is selected in the
Layers section. Now, fit the top element inside the element below it by using
a brush to erase a portion of the top layer's mask, as follows: Begin by selecting
the layer name in the Layers section, then click on the layer mask's name in the
Masks section. Choose the Digital Airbrush variant of Airbrushes and choose white
in the Colors section of the Art Materials palette. Begin painting around the
edge of the top layer to erase part of its mask, making it appear "inside" of
the layer beneath it. Paint with black to restore the mask.
When you've completed all compositing, turn off visibility for the template layer in your file by selecting its name in the Layers section and shutting its eye icon. Then make a copy of your image with the layers merged with the background by choosing File, Clone. This step gives you a lot of flexibility-you have an "original" with layers intact, and a "working image" (the clone) on which you can paint and make other adjustments.
7 Shifting colors. To make the image "pop" a bit more, Dismukes increased
the color saturation. Choose Effects, Tonal Control, Adjust Colors, and experiment
with the Hue Shift, Saturation and Value sliders to modify the colors in your
image.
8 Painting on the photo montage. To transform the television into a lively caricature in vivid color, Dismukes first used the Digital Airbrush variant to add details such as glare
