OFFERS THREE ways to reduce an individual image's color depth: by reducing its
pixel (bit) depth, by reducing the number of colors it contains, or by applying
a stand-alone palette.
Reducing the pixel depth of an image will cause colors to drop out of an image--without letting you control which colors are eliminated. By instead using the Reduce Colors command, DeBabelizer gives you a palette to pick the colors that are eliminated. It also lets you use dithering, which can use colors remaining in the palette to simulate colors you eliminate. Here's the pixel depth/color depth tradeoff: Changing the pixel depth is fast but imprecise since DeBabelizer may wind up creating a different palette for each image. If you're trying to shrink a group of related images, the Reduce Colors route gives you more control.
