Embed Your Own Videos in WordPress
Back in the day, if you wanted to display a video on your WordPress site, you either had to install a plug-in or use a third-party video-hosting service such as YouTube. Starting with WordPress 3.6, you can host your own embedded videos—no plug-ins necessary! The new native video player in WordPress 3.6 automatically displays your video in either HTML5 or Flash, depending on the browser and device, which means fewer worries about compatibility. This article shows you how to embed your own videos.
Uploading Your Video
Your first step: Upload the video! You can do this right from the Post Edit screen:
- Click the Add Media button (see Figure 1).
- Click the Upload tab in the media browser.
- Drag your video into the upload area.
- When your file has uploaded, you'll see its details to the right of the media browser, as shown in Figure 2. Add or change the video's title, caption, or description as needed before you post it.
