Smart Sliced Images
Using options found in the Save for Web feature, GoLive 5 handles sliced images with ease. In Photoshop, or ImageReady, set up the slices for your image. Then, bring the native file into GoLive using the Smart Photoshop icon (which also works with ImageReady 2.0 files) or the Smart Illustrator icon. Or, you can drag the file into the Layout Editor. GoLive prompts you to specify the location of the data folder it creates to store the image slices, then brings up the Save for Web dialog (see Figure 3).
Slices in Save for Web
After you define your settings, the sliced image appears in the Layout Editor like any other image, but you can click directly on the slices. How does GoLive accomplish this magic? Underneath that image is a bit of GoLive trickery called a live gridÑyep, it's just a layout grid, which in turn is just a table. To return to the Save for Web optimization features, select the entire object (click at the edge of the sliced image when the cursor turns into an object select cursor). In the Live Grid Inspector, click the Settings button.
