Sharing Video and Photos Using AirDrop on iOS
The iPhone is one of the most popular cameras in the world. No matter if you are just walking down the street, shopping at the mall, or traveling on vacation, you will inevitably see someone taking a picture or video clip with his or her iPhone.
But when it comes to browsing your photo library, enhancing a photo, or turning those video clips into movies, the iPad easily wins out. It has a lot more room on the screen for you to make a movie or show off your photos. But you don’t have to lug around an iPad to take videos and photos when you can easily transfer them from your iPhone to your iPad.
In the past, the easiest way to do this was to use email or connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC. iOS 7 has a faster, wireless way. AirDrop is a feature in iOS 7 that wirelessly sends files from one nearby iOS device to another.
What Is AirDrop?
When Apple released iOS 7 in September 2013, it included a feature called AirDrop. AirDrop was not exactly a new feature because it had already been a part of OS X since 2011, but it was new for the iPhone, iPad, and the iPod Touch.
Using AirDrop on iOS, you can copy files wirelessly between your Apple mobile devices. Using a combination of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, AirDrop allows you to detect and send your photos and videos to other iOS devices that are in the area.
It’s an amazingly simple feature. No longer do you have to email photos to yourself to get them from one iOS device to another. You no longer have to copy video clips by connecting your iPhone to your Mac or PC only to then turn around and copy them onto your iPad. Although it is very simple to use, what actually happens in the background is an efficient combination of multiple technologies.
