Step 3: Creating an Expressive Line Sketch
For this painted study, I chose to sketch the basic shape of the horse using the Spring Feather Sketch brush because it allows for drawing expressively, while varying the thickness and texture of the lines. Use your stylus to sketch loose strokes, which will suggest the outline and movement of the horse. As you sketch, keep in mind the powerful dynamism of the subject. You can add interesting details and accents with shorter strokes. Figure 6 shows my brush drawing on the colored canvas. The left side of the image is cropped in this example.
