Poring Over the Picture
Photography after the sun goes down can be a challenge, especially if your subject is a person. Using the built-in flash is an option, but the light that comes from it is not always flattering. That’s why I like to use an off-camera Speedlite and a diffusion device whenever I am photographing people. This particular image was taken with a small softbox that is made for external flashes, and it helped me create a large, beautiful light source that flattered my subject. The flash was positioned so that there would be a nice catchlight in the eyes.
