This article provides an overview of a few new FrameMaker 7 features, with a focus on unstructured FrameMaker.
Structured versus Unstructured
The most significant change in FrameMaker 7 is the combination of FrameMaker + SGML and FrameMaker into a single product. You can choose to work in either product the first time you launch the program, or switch at any time via the Preferences dialog box.
To switch to either version:
Select File, Preferences, General.
Select FrameMaker or Structured FrameMaker from the Product Interface pull-down list (see Figure 1).
Figure 1 Switch between structured and unstructured FrameMaker in general preferences.
Click Set; then exit and restart the program to put the selected interface into action.
Structured FrameMaker provides a way for you to work within the structure that is necessary to create and edit SGML or XML; it uses a friendly interface that helps you organize the components of your document.
