Apple Computer's new iLife software suite will transform the way Mac users listen to music, work with photographs, and make movies. The Macintosh iLife, a new book/DVD hybrid produced by Peachpit Press and Avondale Media, will transform the way Mac users master these tools.
Available in February, The Macintosh iLife is a completely revised and expanded version of the critically acclaimed best-seller, The Macintosh Digital Hub, by Jim Heid. The Macintosh iLife is a beautifully illustrated, full-color guide to iTunes 3, iPhoto 2, iMovie 3, and iDVD 3. The book includes a companion DVD-Video disc containing more than 90 minutes of interactive tutorials and tips.
Author/host Jim Heid was given the unprecedented opportunity to work with advance copies of the new iLife programs. "No one outside of Apple has more experience with the new versions of iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD," said Scott Cowlin, Executive Marketing Director at Peachpit Press. "We're thrilled to be able to bring Jim's expertise to the Mac community."
The book and DVD were developed in parallel and each is designed to complement the other. Throughout the book, readers will find references to specific chapters on the DVD that relate to the topic being discussed. Similarly, the DVD frequently refers viewers to the book for technical background and more in-depth information.
The Macintosh iLife book is organized into a series of two-page spreads, each a self-contained reference or tutorial on a specific topic. Each spread is beautifully designed, with illustrations, sidebars, glossaries, and step-by-step instructions that demystify the digital hub and get readers' creative juices flowing.
The book contains four primary sections:
- iTunes and iPod: Making Music
- iPhoto: Organizing and Sharing Images
- iMovie: Editing Video
- iDVD: Putting it All Together
The DVD is organized similarly, with dozens of subchapters and "jump to topic" menus that make any chapter accessible with just a few clicks.
A Macintosh iLife Sneak Preview is also now available, as Peachpit Press has published a 16-page, full-color sneak preview of the new iLife suite and The Macintosh iLife book/DVD. Free copies are available at Macworld in the Peachpit Press booth (2023). An electronic PDF version is also available at www.iday2003.com
Like its predecessor, The Macintosh iLife is the result of a collaboration between Peachpit Press and Avondale Media, producers of seminars and DVD-Video instructional courses (http://www.avondalemedia.com). The Macintosh iLife has a suggested retail price of $29.95.
