Adding animated text
You’re nearly done. All you need to do is to add the animated title between the bird and the background.
Deselect all layers, and then move the current-time indicator to the beginning of the time ruler.
Select the Type tool (
), and then type Reflections in the Composition panel.
A new text layer named Reflections appears in the Timeline panel at the top of the layer stack.
Select the Reflections layer, and then do the following in the Text section of the Properties panel:
Choose Courier New for the font.
Choose Bold for the font style.
Type 300 px for the font size.
Choose Optical from the Kerning menu.
Select white for the Fill color.
Deselect the Stroke checkbox.
Click the More button, and then type 140% for the vertical scale.
The first image shows the footage in the Composition panel with the word Reflections in white appearing in the upper third of the screen. The text had red anchor points around it, indicating it is selected. The second image shows the Text section of the Propterties panel. Courier New is the font. Bold is the font style. 300 px is the font size. Optical has been chosen from the Kerning menu. White for the Fill color. The Stroke checkbox had been deselected. All other options are at their default settings.
Use the Selection tool (
) to reposition the text to rest along the top edge of the rock pool, and then move the Reflections layer below the Chickadee layer.
The timeline panel for Chickadee is set to 00:00 and shows the Mill Pond Start layer active as the bottom layer. The Reflections text layer is active and the Chickadee.mov layer is above it. The second image shows the selected Reflections layer repositioned to rest in the middle of the screen atop the rock pool. The chickadee.mov clip is in front of it and the mill pond footage in in the back.
You’ll animate the text so that it appears on the screen in a liquid motion.
Make sure you’re at the beginning of the timeline and the Reflections layer is selected. In the Effects & Presets panel, type blur in the search box. Under Text, double-click the Blur And Fade In preset.
The top image on the left shows the Reflections layer selected but invisible in the footage. The selection anchors show the it has shifted to the right slightly. Below it, the Timeline panel shows the Reflections layer selected, and the time set to 00:00. The image on the right shows the Effects and Presets panel with the word blur in the Search bar. A cursor is selecting the Blur and Fade In preset, located under Animation Presets > Text > Blurs.
Deselect all layers in the Timeline panel, and move the current-time indicator to the beginning of the time ruler. Press the spacebar to preview the clip.
