Tactic Two: Move Into The Shade
If it's a bright, sunny day, move cast and crew into the shade and reflect the sun back at the subject as key light, possibly using a shiny board and a flag for greater control. Use a bounce board from another angle to provide fill. Face your subjects away from the sun to use it as backlight.
