Either technique will enable you to transfer files from one computer to another. Just drag files from one open window to another. If the source window happens to be on your Mac and the destination window happens to be on your PC, you'll be sharing files between the two computers.
Personally, I like opening Windows folders on my Mac. The Mac, after all, is my primary workplace.
