Non-permanent fixes
When you're applying a Levels fix to a photo you can do it without
permanently altering the image if you use an Adjustment Layer. To do this,
choose LayerNew Adjustment Layer
Levels. Click OK to select the
default layer name, make your levels adjustment and then click OK.
A new layer now appears in the Layer palette, as shown in Figure 7. To remove the fix, simply turn the layer visibility off using the Layer visibility toggle. If you decide that the correction needs fine-tuning, double-click the layer and make a further alteration to the adjustment layer settings before clicking OK.

Figure 7. Using adjustment layers to make a fix, such as a levels adjustment, lets you alter the adjustment at any time and even remove it if desired.
