Quick and soft selections
Often it's better to make a fix on a selection rather than the entire image. When making a selection, you may find it easiest to paint the selection rather than use one of the selection tools. To paint a selection, first select a brush to use and click the Edit in Quick Mask Mode button located towards the foot of the toolbar (or, alternatively, press Q). Make your selection by painting, paint with black to paint on the mask (the unselected area) or painting in white to remove it. Once you have completed your selection in the quick mask mode, click the Edit in Standard Mode button or press Q to return to Standard Mode. You'll note that the area not covered with the ruby red mask is now selected. To select the masked area, choose SelectInverse.
