THE ELLIPTICAL MARQUEE TOOL
The Elliptical Marquee tool enables you to make circular selections. Open a photo that you can practice with and press M to toggle between the Rectangular Marquee tool and the Elliptical Marquee tool. This is the tool to use to make a classic vignette: a photo in a circle or oval with soft, feathered edges. Wedding photographers love a good vignette. Click and drag a marquee over a portion of the image. To start your selection from the center of what you want to select, click in the center, begin dragging and then press the Alt Key. When you release your mouse button, the “marching ants” appear. If necessary, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to “nudge” the selection exactly where you want it.
