Capture and the Capture Panel
As you'll discover, capturing DV is almost as easy as watching it. Even so, several options deserve explanation, and this chapter breaks them into the following sections:
Watching Video During Capture explains how to specify whether you want to watch the video in the Capture panel or on a television, as well.
Controlling a Camera with the Capture Panel explains how to ensure that Premiere Elements' Capture panel controls your DV camera or deck.
Storing Captured Footage explains how to select where the files you capture are stored on your computer.
Using Playback Controls in the Capture Panel explains how to use the playback and capture controls in the Capture panel.
Capturing DV explains how to capture video and audio from a DV source—including how to capture shots automatically, and how to add captured clips into a sequence automatically.
Once you've read the first two sections, you'll rarely perform the tasks they contain. The next two sections are a more integral part of the capture process. But if you're eager to get started, it's OK to skip right to the final section, "Capturing DV," and refer back to the earlier sections as needed.
As long as you're getting an overview, take a moment to open and look at the Capture panel itself.
To open the Capture panel:

In the Premiere Elements taskbar, click the Capture button ( Figure 3.4 ).

The Capture panel appears ( Figure 3.5 ).

- Although the Capture area of the Project Settings dialog box includes a pull-down menu for Capture Format, Premiere Elements supports only DV–based capture devices. So, DV Capture is the only item in the pull-down menu.
