Trojan Horses
A trojan horse is a malicious application that disguises itself as something else (hence the name from the story of the Greek and Trojan war). A trojan horse usually appears as an application that does something completely different from the actual malicious intent—such as a downloadable screensaver or pop-up blocker. Some trojans actually do what they claim to (as in the case of some that masquerade as pop-up blockers for Windows users), but they also do something else in the background. Trojan horses can do all the same bad things that viruses and worms do, but they can be easier to protect against, as long as you download only software from known legitimate sources.
