You’ve Got the Audacity
Audacity is excellent open source audio-editing software, and it’s included in Podcast Factory’s software bundle. It’s available for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux and it allows you to record audio, edit out mistakes, and even add effects. I used it to mix in some opening music for my podcast (see Figure 4), and applied a Fade Out effect as the voice track started. I used Generate > Silence to add the right amount of space to the beginning of the voice track so the music could play out and then exported everything to MP3. Dragging on an unwanted sound segment and hitting Delete is all that’s required to get rid of awkward silences and other audio anomalies.
