Creating a Slideshow Using Picture Tasks
To begin working with the Picture Tasks How To window, click a function in the list. The appropriate dialog opens. Click the Hide button to close the How To window if you find it takes too much room on the program window. You can reopen the How To window by clicking the Picture Tasks task button and choosing How To Picture Tasks from the pull-down menu.
Picture Tasks contains an option that lets Susan build a slideshow through a single dialog, making her job easier and the task quicker.
Follow these steps to create a slideshow directly from the Picture Tasks How To window:
- Click the Export to Slideshow link on the Picture Tasks How To window, or click the Picture Tasks button and choose Export to Slideshow from the pull-down menu. The Export to Slideshow dialog opens (

).

- Click the check boxes beneath each thumbnail of the document's images or click the Select All check box to select the set of pages automatically. (Click Clear All to remove all the check boxes if you want to start the selection process over.)
- Click the Title field and type a name for the slideshow, which will be shown on the first page of the slideshow when it plays.
- Click the Slide Duration pull-down arrow and choose a time for displaying each slide. You can choose from several options, ranging from 1 to 30 seconds. For a slideshow used to present images, as in this example project, 4 or 5 seconds is a sufficient length of time for viewers to see each image.
- Click the Transition pull-down arrow and choose from one of several transitions, which are animations used to change the view from one image to another (
Figure 3.11
). For example, the Fade transition fades one image out as the next fades in; the Wipe transition slides one image out as the next slides into place.

- If you like, click the Background Music pull-down arrow and choose Select to open a browse dialog. Locate a music file and select it; you see its name listed in the field. Susan uses the snow.wav file for her project. The default option for Background Music is None.
- Click the "Open slideshow after export" check box to view the slideshow once it is created.
- Click Export to dismiss the dialog, and open a Save As dialog. Rename the file if you wish (it automatically uses the existing PDF filename) and select the storage location. Click Save to create the slideshow.

If you chose the option "Open slideshow after export" on the Export to Slideshow dialog, when you save the file, the slideshow runs. The slideshow displays a semitransparent control panel at the upper-right corner of the window ( Figure 3.12 ). Click the controls to control the slideshow's playback, or let it run as programmed.

When the slideshow finishes, it closes and returns to Acrobat. An Adobe Picture Tasks dialog displays ( Figure 3.13 ). Click Play to replay the slideshow, or close the dialog.
