Full Screen and Remote Use
Most EyeTV devices also include an IR remote that can be used to manage EyeTV’s full screen interface. This is an important feature if you are using EyeTV with a Mac that is connected to your television because it enables you to have a complete TV/DVR experience and doesn’t require you to use a keyboard or mouse to change channels, select programs for recording, or view and manage recordings. The remotes that are included with EyeTV devices vary and some are more intuitive than others. Some also appear to be designed to work with a broad range of TV-related hardware, which can make them hard to get used to.
The full screen interface, which was introduced in a recent version of the EyeTV software, is good but is a bit more cumbersome than that of most cable/satellite DVR solutions. I personally find it easier to view the program guide from a computer than using the remote. However, once you get used to the interface and a specific remote, it is relatively easy to use.
