Other Effects You Can Create with Match Color
Match Color can be used to create an artistic effect such as turning daylight into dusk. Here’s how:
- Open an image taken in daylight and one taken at sunset that has lots of colors that you want to mimic.
- Select the daylight image, choose Image > Adjustments > Match Color, and select the sunset image as the source. The colors in your daylight image will be altered to look more like the photo was taken later in the day (see Figure 4).

Another application for Match Color is color-correcting an image that’s too warm or too cool. To do this, open an image that has the desired warmth or coolness and use it with the Match Color tool to adjust your image (see Figure 5).

The Match Color tool saves time and effort when you’re color-correcting a photograph. It’s also invaluable when creating composite images, when you want the images you’re working with to blend well together.
