Put iPhoto on a Diet
Even with duplicate files removed, iPhoto is a huge disk space hog because it keeps backup copies of any photo that you edit (even if that edit is simply to rotate the photo). If you have an external editor such as Photoshop set up in iPhoto, a backup of every photo will be made even if you’ve never modified them. This can easily cost you gigabytes of hard drive space. iPhoto Diet enables you to delete backup copies of all your photos, those that were created for rotated photos, and only those that have not been modified.
