Configuring iChat for Users
To configure iChat to access your server is also a fairly straightforward process. Open the iChat Preferences and select the Accounts pane. Select Jabber Account in the accounts list. If Jabber Account isn’t displayed or is already configured, click the add account (plus sign) button to create a new account and select Jabber as the account type. Enter the user’s full screen name (user@server.domain.com) in the Jabber ID field and have the user enter his/her password. Enter the server’s fully qualified domain name in the Server field (if you added a new account, this will be in the dialog box for the new account; otherwise it will be on the Server tab for the account). Also, be sure to check the "Use this account" option and (if you choose) the "When iChat open, automatically login" option.
You can then test the connection selecting "Log In to Jabber" from the iChat menu in the menu bar. By default, iChat uses SSL to connect to a Jabber server (including iChat Server) and allows self-signed certificates.
However, if you experience problems connecting, verify that these options are selected in the Server Settings tab of the iChat Preferences for the account (see Figure 3).

Other Jabber clients can be configured using similar settings. Refer to the documentation of the clients you are configuring for details.
