Step 3: Add the Default Transition
The cross dissolve is such a popular transition that Adobe has assigned it as the default. This is denoted by the red square surrounding the cross dissolve’s small icon. Being the default transition means you can add it to the timeline via the menu or a keyboard shortcut.
To add the default transition, do the following:
- Scrub the timeline cursor along until the cursor is roughly over the point where two clips join (see Figure 3.11).
- Add the default transition by doing one of the following:
Choose Sequence > Apply Video Transition (see Figure 3.12).
Press Ctrl+D on the keyboard.
The default transition will appear on the timeline and can be adjusted using the techniques described above.
