Enabling AirDrop on iOS
Before you can use AirDrop on iOS to send videos or photos, you need to turn it on. The easiest way to turn it on is by using the iOS Control Center.
- From your iOS Home screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen (see Figure 1).
- In the Control Center, tap the AirDrop button.
The pop up menu that appears next (see Figure 2) allows you to control who can see your device through AirDrop. Your choices allow everyone within range or only people in your Contacts. You can also disable AirDrop from the menu.
That’s it. AirDrop is now enabled. Because both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are required for AirDrop, they are automatically enabled as well when AirDrop is turned on.
You can share from different apps using AirDrop, but not all apps support it. Maps and Safari for iOS are two of the Apple-provided apps that support sharing through AirDrop, but non-Apple apps also support it. You can share files through the cloud storage app Dropbox or notes from the popular “to-do” app Evernote. Maybe the most useful cases involve using AirDrop with the Photos app, iPhoto for iOS, or iMovie for iOS. With these apps, you can transfer photos, video clips, or entire iMovie projects from one iOS device to another.
